Making Fishing Lures
Catching a fish for the first time comes with a very rewarding feeling, especially if your father or Grandpa is with you in the process. But nothing beats the feeling of being able to catch your first bass or trout on a fishing lure that you made all by yourself (this adds up to the glory of the moment). Yes, it's possible to make a home-made fishing lure. Here's how:
Okay, most fishing lures are made out of wood, specifically Balsa and Basswood. But did you know that you can also use your usual home improvement wood items to make one? Cedar, for example, is a great material for fishing lures. This type of wood carves and shapes fairly easily.
Now, after shaping your Cedar wood, you have to give it some patterns to look like a real fishing lure. But that would be easy. Use old nylons and an airbrush.
To finish off your fishing lure, seal it with a wood sealer. And...that's basically it.
If you want to make fancier fishing lures, you might as well read some books dedicated to this craft. Some examples are Captain John's Fishing Tackle Price Guide by John A. Kolbeck, Classic Fishing Lures and Tackle by Eric Lowell Sorenson and Old Fishing Lures & Tackle: Identification & Value Guide by Carl F. Luckey.
